July 24, 2026

A young Palestinian man was martyred by Israeli forces at the Shu’fat refugee camp checkpoint northeast of Jerusalem, and his body is still in Israeli custody.

The Jerusalem Governorate stated that the martyr was Khalil Rashad Hamed al-Risheq, 47, from the Dahiyat al-Salam neighborhood near Shu’fat refugee camp. He was married and had four daughters and a son. They highlighted that his killing is part of the broader pattern of extrajudicial killings by Israeli forces targeting Palestinians. His family also mentioned that he suffered from epilepsy.

Israeli forces shot and killed al-Risheq on Thursday evening at the Shu’fat refugee camp checkpoint. Witnesses reported that soldiers shot him twice in the thigh and left him bleeding on the ground, preventing civilians and medical personnel from helping or providing first aid. A large pool of blood was seen at the scene.

The Israeli police spokesperson stated that border guards shot al-Risheq in the lower body after he "aroused suspicion," claiming he did not obey orders to stop while near the checkpoint.

According to local sources, Israeli forces sealed off the area around the checkpoint after the shooting, detained al-Risheq, and blocked medical teams from reaching him. The Jerusalem Governorate later confirmed his martyrdom, but Israeli authorities are still withholding his body.
