A continuous siege on Shu’fat refugee camp and Anata...Arrests and confrontations
The occupation authorities isolated the Shu’fat refugee camp and the town of Anata, in the city of Jerusalem, and turned the area into a military zone.
The occupation forces deployed their various divisions at the entrance to Shu’fat camp and its military checkpoint, and at the entrance to Anata, "the other entrance to the camp." The forces also deployed in the streets and alleys of the camp, and completely prevented anyone from entering or leaving the area of the camp and Anata. Due to the imposed restrictions, employees, workers and students were unable to go to work and schools.
Sniper teams climbed the roofs of some buildings and residential houses and took them as a control point, preventing their owners from using them. Sniper teams deployed inside the camp’s streets, and helicopters and drones hovered over the camp’s sky.
Eyewitnesses explained that the forces stormed mosques and shops in the camp and Anata, and confiscated surveillance cameras recordings, and also conducted a search inside them.
In the afternoon hours, violent confrontations erupted in the streets of the camp in response to the intrusion and abuse of the residents, and the forces fired rubber bullets, gas bombs and live bullets in the streets of the camp.
From the hours of Saturday evening until Sunday afternoon, the occupation forces carried out arrests of up to 15 detainees, and the court extended the detention of 9 of them "noting that they were arrested on Saturday evening and at dawn Sunday." Several people were arrested in the afternoon hours after they were summoned for immediate investigation, and they turned themselves in at the Shu’fat camp checkpoint; those will be presented before court on Monday evening.
Among the detainees was a young man as he walked by the camp's checkpoint. He was attacked and arrested.
The police said that they arrested 3 suspects of the shooting attack from "Shu’fat, Beit Hanina and Anata", and referred them to the cells for interrogation, and the forces continue to search for the perpetrator.
The Israeli media said that the forces arrested the parents of the suspect, while his brother turned himself in after being summoned for interrogation. The driver of the vehicle that transported the suspect to the checkpoint also turned himself in.
