9 Homeless people - The municipality demolishes two apartments in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber
May 10, 2023

Today, Wednesday morning, the occupation municipality began demolishing two apartments for the two brothers, Firas and Ali Shqeirat, in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber.

Late yesterday evening, the Shqeirat family emptied the contents of the two apartments and dismantled the doors and windows, after calls from the municipality and the police to demand the “self-demolition”, and threatening to storm the place and the municipality’s bulldozers would do so.

Firas Shqeirat explained that the family refuses the "self-demolition" and that it tried to obtain a building permit and freeze the demolition decision, but the municipality insisted on the decision.

Shqeirat pointed out that the construction has been in place since 2016, and last March, the family was notified of the demolition of the two apartments, and after going to court through a lawyer, the demolition was frozen until 15/9/2023, in exchange for paying 30,000 shekels to the court, and that was already done. A week ago, the municipality asked the court to immediately cancel the "demolition freeze" decision and implement the demolition.

Shqeirat said: "The court approved the municipality's request, and we were informed of that. The municipality asked us to demolish the two apartments with our own hands, but we reject this policy."

The area of each apartment is 115 square meters, and one of them belongs to Firas Shqeirat, in which 5 people live, and the other belongs to Ali Shqeirat, in which 4 people live.
