On Wednesday, the District Court issued a decision to imprison the Jerusalemite boy, Mahmoud Mohammad Aleiwat, 14 years old.

The lawyer of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem, Mohammad Mahmoud, explained that a session was held on Wednesday in the District Court, to consider the Public Prosecution’s request to transfer his client, the boy Mahmoud Mohammad Aleiwat, to the actual prison after he turned 14 years old.

Lawyer Mahmoud added that the judge agreed to the prosecution’s request, and issued a decision to arrest him and transfer him from the internal institute where he is to the actual prison, “that is, a warrant of arrest”.

The lawyer added that the law prohibits imposing a prison sentence on a minor under the age of 14. When he was arrested and after an indictment was filed against him, he was transferred to the internal institute since he couldn’t be sent to prison, and today, after he reached 14 years of age, a request was submitted to transfer him to prison.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud pointed out that a session in the Supreme Court was held on October 5th, after the settlers submitted a request to the court not to conduct a “plea for the sentence of the boy Aleiwat” before November, and the court agreed to their request, as the goal of this was to wait until Aleiwat turns 14 years old when sentenced.

The boy, Aleiwat, was arrested at the end of last January, after he was shot in the town of Silwan. He suffered from difficult health conditions and was transferred from the hospital to the internal institute.
