January 28, 2024

On the 114th day of “Al-Aqsa Flood Operation,” the siege imposed on Al-Aqsa Mosque continued while dozens of settlers were allowed to storm it. The forces raided the “Al-Aqsa Shari’a School for Girls” and arrested one of the students. The raids also continued into the towns and neighborhoods of the city of Jerusalem.

Al-Aqsa...ongoing siege and continuous settlers' incursions

The occupation authorities continue to impose restrictions on the entry of worshipers into Al-Aqsa Mosque, and continue their presence at all its gates. Worshipers explained to the Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem, that members of the forces stationed at the gates of Al-Aqsa control the entry of worshipers into the mosque, “who enters and who is prevented from entering the mosque.” Procedures does not exclude anyone who arrives at the gates of Al-Aqsa from searches, identity checks, and attempts to obstruct entry, and all of these procedures are subject to “the mood of the policeman at the gate.”

Worshipers explained that the measures, since the seventh of October, do not stop at preventing worshipers from entering Al-Aqsa, as well as removing them from its gates and even the vicinity of the Old City “outside the Lions’ Gate, to prevent prayer at the gates.”

Settlers' incursions into Al-Aqsa continue, as 126 settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, through the Dung Gate, the keys of which have been controlled by the occupation authorities since the occupation of Jerusalem.

Storming Al-Aqsa Shari’a School

On Sunday afternoon, the occupation forces stormed Al-Aqsa Shari’a School for Girls, located inside Al-Aqsa Square, and the police demanded to bring one of the students “to execute an arrest warrant issued against her,” while threatening to storm the classroom.

Siraj Abu Arafeh, the lawyer of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem, explained that the forces arrested the student and transferred her for investigation at the “Salah al-Din Street” police station. After the investigation, she was released on condition of house arrest for 5 days, and deportation from the vicinity of Herods Gate and Damascus Gate for a week.

The occupation forces arrested 3 boys while they were in the Old City of Jerusalem and transferred them for investigation at the Al-Qishla Police Station. The center’s lawyer, Abu Arafeh, explained that the boys were released after their detention.

In another context, the Sumrein family from the town of Silwan explained that the two young men, Abdul Karim Sumrein and Adam Halis, were run over by a settler while they were in the “Talpiot” area.

The family added that after the two young men, Abdul Karim and Adam, were referred for treatment at Shaare Zedek Hospital, a number of their friends gathered to check on their condition and health, while the hospital guards assaulted them by pushing and beating them, then the forces arrested the young men: Laith Sumrein, Mohammad Ziad Sumrein, and Mohammad Mahmoud Sumrein.

The occupation authorities renewed the administrative detention of the Jerusalemite Mohammad al-Bakri, for a period of 4 months.

The young man, Al-Bakri, was arrested from his home in Beit Hanina on 28/9/2023, and after several days he was transferred to administrative detention, and the decision “administrative detention coincided with the date of his wedding day.”

The Al-Bakri family explained that their son was scheduled to be released today, but they were surprised by the renewal of his administrative detention.

On the other hand, the Red Crescent said that its crews transferred a young man for treatment, after he was injured as a result of being beaten in the Old City of Jerusalem.
