Sentencing the child Mohammad Al-Zalbani to 18 years in prison and a fine of a quarter of a million shekels.
Today, Sunday, the District Court in Jerusalem issued a verdict of 18 years in prison for the child Mohammad Basil Al-Zalbani, in addition to a fine of a quarter of a million shekels.
The case of the child Al-Zalbani (15 years old) dates back to February 13, 2023, when the occupation forces arrested him from inside a bus at the Shu’fat refugee camp checkpoint in Jerusalem. He was charged with causing the death of a "Border Guard" soldier by bullets from his colleague, the "guard", who shot at the child Al-Zalbani while he was trying to carry out a stabbing operation after brandishing a knife, but the bullet hit the soldier and he was declared dead.
During today's session, the brother of the dead soldier attacked the Al-Zalbani family (his mother and uncle) by shouting, cursing and using obscene language, while the family was detained inside the court until the family of the dead soldier and his companions left. The father of the prisoner Al-Zalbani was also prevented from entering the court.
The child, Al-Zalbani, was brought in wearing prison clothes, handcuffed and surrounded by police officers and court guards, while his mother was prevented from seeing or hugging him in the courtroom.
The child, Al-Zalbani, was subjected to harsh and difficult interrogations during his arrest, where he spent several days in the Al-Maskobiya Police Station in West Jerusalem. After the indictment was filed against him, he was transferred to a "boarding institution/boarding institute" inside the occupied Palestinian territories due to his young age, where he spent the past period.
Two weeks ago, the child, Al-Zalbani, was transferred to Al-Damon Prison after he turned 15.
The child, Al-Zalbani, was subjected to beatings and assault during court sessions, as the intelligence service would take him to the sessions from the boarding institute. After his family objected to this, a team from the boarding institution began to accompany him to the court in Jerusalem.
On 8/11/2023, the occupation blew up the Al-Zalbani family’s house in Shu’fat refugee camp, and during the past two years, the child’s father and brother were arrested, in addition to being summoned repeatedly.
