Journalist Bayan Jo’beh - House Arrest until the end of legal proceedings and new restrictive conditions
The Israeli Magistrate Judge extended the house arrest imposed on Jerusalemite journalist Bayan Jo’beh on Tuesday, pending the conclusion of legal proceedings against her.
A hearing was held today for journalist Bayan Jo’beh, during which the judge decided to extend the house arrest imposed on her since the end of last month, pending the conclusion of legal proceedings against her.
During today's hearing, the judge also decided to "ban her from using social media" and to prevent her from conducting press interviews.
Last Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Public Prosecution filed an indictment against Jerusalemite journalist Bayan Jo’beh, which included "incitement via social media, and support for, and membership in, a terrorist organization."
The indictment filed against journalist Jo’beh includes 14 posts on Facebook and Instagram, some of which are part of her journalistic work as "news posts," in addition to a post featuring a personal photo of herself at Al-Aqsa. According to the indictment, the posts date back to 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, with the most recent being eight months ago.
Journalist Bayan Jo’beh was arrested on February 28, 2025, from inside Al-Aqsa Mosque while she was accompanied by her two daughters and her husband, journalist Mohammad Sadiq. She was released after hours of detention and interrogation, subject to house arrest and to appear for interrogation immediately upon summons, due to her health condition. She is "in the last month of pregnancy and her pregnancy is classified as high-risk."
Journalist Bayan is a mother of two daughters (Ghadoush, 7, and Bisan, 3). She has been under house arrest in her home in Shu’fat refugee camp for nearly a month.
