July 14, 2025

On Monday, the Jerusalem municipality forced the Salaymeh family to self-demolish two of their apartments in the town of Silwan, claiming they were built without a permit.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem explained that the family emptied the contents of the two apartments in the morning and began the demolition process in the afternoon.

The first apartment belongs to Maher Salaymeh, and the second belongs to his son, Mohammad.

The family reported that Maher lives in his apartment with his family of four, while Mohammad lives in his apartment with his family of three.

The family explained that the building has been standing for 35 years and has a total area of 140 square meters.

During the demolition, occupation forces stormed the site to verify the implementation of the municipality's decision. The municipality had given the family until this evening to implement it, otherwise, municipal vehicles and crews would forcibly demolish the apartments on Tuesday morning, and the family would then bear the costs of the demolition, including the cost of the vehicles and accompanying forces.
