Two Jerusalemite families forced to self-demolish their homes in Al-Sowaneh and Silwan
April 18, 2026

Two Palestinian families in Jerusalem were compelled to self-demolish their homes following final demolition orders from the Israeli municipality, which cited illegal construction without permits. These incidents occurred in the Al-Sowaneh neighborhood and in the town of Silwan.

In Al-Sowaneh, the Al-Hashlamon Al-Ayoubi family was forced to self-demolish their home, which had stood for approximately 10 years, after being denied a building permit and subjected to hefty fines.

The family explained that their home measured 70 square meters. The municipality issued a final demolition order, and to protect the old ground floor, which dates back to 1936, the family was forced to carry out the demolition themselves to avoid further fines.

In Silwan, specifically in the Al-Bustan neighborhood, Wael Jalajel was forced to self-demolish his two apartments, totaling 140 square meters and housing eight people.
