New Self-Demolition in Silwan – The Qara’in Family Forced to Demolish its Home
August 15, 2025

The Israeli occupation municipality has forced Amar Qara’in, a resident of Wadi Hilweh in the town of Silwan, to carry out the demolition of his own home under a municipal order.

According to the Qara’in family, the municipality compelled them to demolish parts of their house, which had stood for 25 years. The family had already demolished another section of their property a few days earlier, but when municipal crews came to inspect the demolition, they handed the family an additional order requiring the demolition of Amar Qara’in’s home. The family explained that they were forced to comply in order to prevent damage to the remaining sections of the house.

Home demolitions continue across Jerusalem. This week alone, two demolition operations were carried out:

The demolition of a 16-square-meter chicken coop belonging to the Burqan family, despite the demolition order being valid until September 10, 2025. In addition to the demolition of three residential apartments in Silwan belonging to the Qara’in and Samrin families. And also the demolition of an apartment in the village of Sur Baher belonging to the Amira family.
