Two settlers attacked shop owners and their belongings in the Old City of Jerusalem on Saturday, while Israeli occupation forces arrested four Palestinians from the Abu Sbeih family, including three from inside their shop.

Firas al-Jabrini, a lawyer with the Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem, explained that the occupation forces arrested Majed Nazmi Abu Sbeih, Mahmoud Majed Abu Sbeih, and Majdi Majed Abu Sbeih from their shop on al-Wad Street. They also arrested Nazmi Majed Abu Sbeih as he was heading to the police station to file a complaint against the attacking settlers.

He added that the detainees were taken to the al-Qishla police station near Jaffa Gate for interrogation.

According to eyewitnesses, the settlers deliberately vandalized shops and assaulted shop owners with blows, insults, and profanities while walking through the Old City markets, particularly in the Damascus Gate and al-Wad Street areas. They also damaged some of the shop contents without any apparent reason, in a clear attempt to provoke the merchants and passersby.

Witnesses indicated that settlers stormed Al-Basha/Abu Sbeih’s shop on Al-Wad Street and assaulted those inside with beatings and insults, and vandalized the contents of the shop, while the occupation police arrested members of the Abu Sbeih family instead of the assailants, and ordered the family to close the shop without informing them of the reason for the decision or its duration.
