A 28-year prison sentence and a fine of 50,000 shekels: Prisoners Ghalma and Qawasmi sentenced to serve time
The Jerusalem District Court handed down prison sentences on Wednesday to two Palestinian youths from Hebron.
Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem explained that the judge sentenced Mu'taz Ghalma (19 years old) and Hatem Qawasmi (19 years old) to 28 years in prison and a fine of 50,000 shekels each, plus a 10-month suspended sentence for three years.
The sentences followed their conviction on charges of "attempted murder with nationalistic motives, including a ramming attack, attempted shooting, and possession of a knife" in West Jerusalem.
Lawyer Firas al-Jabrini stated that the two young men were arrested on April 22, 2024, and subjected to lengthy, harsh interrogations at detention and interrogation centers.
Hatem Qawasmi is currently held in Nafha Prison, while Mu'taz Ghalma is serving his sentence in Ofer Prison.
