Today, the demolition of Palestinian homes in Jerusalem persisted, with the Israeli municipality compelling two families in Jabal al-Mukabber and Silwan to tear down their houses. Additionally, municipal workers raided the al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan and dismantled another residence.
Self-demolition of three apartments in Jabal al-Mukabber
The Israeli municipality compelled Mustafa al-Rimawi to self-demolish three apartments in the Jabal al-Mukabber village, which housed around ten residents.
Al-Rimawi noted that one apartment had been standing for approximately 35 years, while the other two were constructed around 25 years ago. Each was between 50 and 70 square meters in area.
He also mentioned that the family's loss extends beyond the apartments' demolition. The plans involve confiscating the three-dunom land plot where the apartments stood to build a road, leaving the family without their homes or land and no alternative offered.
Self-demolition of two homes in Silwan
In Silwan, the Israeli municipality compelled brothers Omar and Mahmoud Tawil to self-demolish their homes to circumvent the costs they would have faced for the demolition.
The two homes combined measure about 180 square meters. Omar's residence accommodated four people, whereas Mahmoud's housing sheltered five.
Built in 2018, the houses led to the municipality fining the family over 120,000 shekels before they were demolished.
Raid on Al-Bustan neighborhood and demolition of a home
In the Al-Bustan neighborhood of Silwan, Israeli municipal workers, supported by police, raided the area and destroyed Muhammad Qwaider's home. This action is part of the ongoing policy of demolishing Palestinian residences in Jerusalem, often justified by claims of building without permits.
