Occupation authorities sentenced a Jerusalemite to 22.5 years in prison and extended the administrative detention of three other prisoners
Last weekend, the Israeli District Court in Jerusalem sentenced Nabil Sha'bani, a 62-year-old resident of Jerusalem, to 22.5 years in prison after convicting him of attempted murder of a settler. Meanwhile, occupation authorities persist in their policy of administrative detention against prisoners from Jerusalem.
The court also ordered Sha'bani to pay 150,000 shekels in compensation to the plaintiff after convicting him of attempting to murder a settler. The court stated that his motives were influenced by the situation in the Gaza Strip during the war.
Occupation forces arrested Sha'bani about a year ago, and he remained in detention until his sentencing.
In a related update, administrative detentions of Jerusalem residents persisted throughout August. The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem noted that authorities renewed Izz al-Din Attoun's administrative detention from Sur Baher for a third time, extending it by three months. This renewal occurred right after his prior detention period ended, which was set to conclude this month.
In February, occupation authorities detained Attoun and held him under administrative detention for three months. His detention was extended again in May and has been renewed a third time this month.
Thaer Abu Sbeih, a 32-year-old resident of the Old City in Jerusalem, had his administrative detention order renewed for the second consecutive time, extending it by six months.
Abu Sbeih was arrested last February and interrogated for weeks in detention cells before being placed under administrative detention.
The occupation authorities also transferred the Jerusalemite Salim al-Jo’beh to administrative detention for three months. He was arrested by occupation forces roughly a month ago and was interrogated in detention cells before the order for administrative detention was issued.
Prisoners are held under administrative detention orders signed by Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, without facing charges or trial. These orders can be renewed repeatedly for additional periods.
