A large-scale campaign in the Shu’fat refugee camp and Anata since midnight, completely disrupting daily life
Since midnight last night, the Shu’fat refugee camp and the town of Anata have experienced a strict lockdown, with occupation forces heavily deployed in the streets and entrances. Numerous homes and shops have been raided, and there have been arrests, detentions, and field interrogations. This comes alongside demolition and bulldozing activities, road closures, and restrictions on movement affecting residents, schools, and businesses.
As the raid started, authorities announced movement restrictions for residents through loudspeakers in the Shu’fat refugee camp and Anata. These measures resembled a curfew, causing daily life to grind to a halt.
The campaign involved demolitions, bulldozing, vehicle confiscations, water line destructions, and raids on many homes and shops, often after blowing up or breaking down main doors.
The forces have conducted arrests and detentions of many residents, including women, teenagers, young men, and elders. Several homes have been turned into military bases and centers for interrogation and detention, with detainees transferred to these locations. Field reports indicate that detainees were blindfolded and had their hands tied with plastic straps.
Residents reported that Israeli forces sealed off the camp and town entrances along with major intersections and streets, employing police vehicles and equipment. They were also barred from leaving the area, with movement in and out restricted.
These measures also hindered ambulance traffic and blocked access to some areas for ambulances.
The restrictions halted daily activities, leading to closed shops, disrupted resident movement, and students unable to attend school. The main checkpoint in the area is also facing severe traffic congestion.
Field reports indicate that the Anata junction remains accessible inland, but the exit lane is shut. A significant number of forces have been deployed, checkpoints have been set up, and several intersections and streets are closed. Around midday, some vehicles were permitted to leave via the Anata entrance following thorough searches and ID checks. Military and police vehicles are stationed across the streets of Shu’fat camp and Anata town, with drones flying overhead. Infantry units periodically patrol neighborhoods in both the camp and the town before rotating at checkpoints and entrances.
Israeli forces set up roadblocks and checkpoints on multiple streets in the camp, stopping pedestrians, verifying IDs, and conducting field interrogations on some. This interrupted residents' movement and limited their freedom of movement within the area.
This occurs amid a strong military presence, with several entrances and intersections closed, and ongoing raids on homes and shops, along with arrests and detentions.
Schools closed
Due to the ongoing campaign and movement restrictions, schools in the Shu’fat refugee camp and Anata have announced they will close for the day to protect students and teachers. The area is seeing widespread closures of entrances and streets, bringing daily activities to a halt.
Israeli Forces: Operation targets “Terrorist Activity”
In a statement, occupation authorities announced that the army carried out an operation in Anata and the Shu’fat refugee camp, aiming to “thwart terrorist activity” and target what they described as “terrorist infrastructure.” They also mentioned addressing the issue of “possessing and trafficking in weapons.”
