The occupation harasses Jerusalemites during Ramadan…demolition notices and harassing merchants
June 20, 2016

The Israeli violations in the city of Jerusalem did not take a break during the holy of month of Ramadan and the occupation authorities continued harassing Jerusalemites.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center was informed that the occupation forces along with municipality employees raided the house of Khaled Abbasi in Silwan and asked him to evacuate it as it will be demolished; they did not set any timelines.

The center was informed that Khaled’s house is 100 square meters and consists of three rooms and their facilities where he lives with his wife and their baby.

In the early morning hours, the occupation authorities stopped Jerusalemites from bringing meals to worshippers inside Al-Aqsa Mosque before they start their fasting. It is noteworthy that on the 9th of the current month, the forces also prevented meals from being entered into Al-Aqsa Mosque and given to worshippers to break their fast.

The spokesman of Fateh Movement in Shu’fat refugee camp, Thaer Fasfoos, explained that large numbers of Israeli forces raided the refugee camp in the early morning hours and stormed into several houses under the pretext of “looking for prohibited items”.

Fasfoos added that the forces assaulted the locals including women and children during the raid and deliberately damaged the residents’ property; the raid lasted nearly 3 hours.

Fasfoos added that one young man was bruised after being assaulted and beaten and was transferred to the medical center for treatment.

During the month of Ramadan, the occupation municipality along with Israeli police deliberately harassed the owners of stalls in the areas of Damascus Gate, Hutta Gate, Lions Gate and Herod’s Gate and confiscated their stalls in several occasions especially the bread stalls.

Last Saturday (18/6/2016), municipality crews raided Silwan and took pictures of several streets and houses and handed administrative demolition orders to two houses in Ein Al-Lozeh in Silwan and another in Wad Yasoul; they also took pictures of the stores’ signs.

The occupation police deliberately establish checkpoints in the streets of Silwan on a daily basis and search vehicles and IDs in a provocative way especially when people are heading home to break their fast in the evening hours and while heading to Al-Aqsa to perform Al-Taraweeh Prayer.

For the third consecutive day, the occupation authorities continued to close streets in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber and closed the street between the villages of Sur Baher and Jabal Al-Mukabber. They also established a checkpoint using cement blocks near the southern road of Jabal Al-Mukabber.

The occupation authorities also continued to randomly issue traffic tickets to vehicles in the city of Jerusalem and its neighborhoods.
