July 15, 2016

The occupation police unconditionally released 24-year old Yehya Hijazi and told his family that shooting him was a mistake and unintentional.

Yehya was shot on Thursday while heading to work in West Jerusalem. He passed through the checkpoint of Shu’fat refugee camp at the same time when a drug-addict young man was holding a knife and an ax in his hand.

Hijazi family explained that their son managed to take the knife away from the young man who was threatening passers-by and was surprised when he was shot by the Musta’ribeen (undercover police) individuals. The police issued a statement saying that borders control individuals opened fire towards a young man who was holding a knife and quickly approaching them.

Hijazi family added that Yehya was injured with 9 bullets in one leg and suffered fractures in the other. He underwent two surgeries where Platinum was planted. After the surgery, he was interrogated for three hours while still under anesthesia. The police then left his room and told the family their son was shot by mistake. It is noteworthy that the police prevented his family from checking on him after he was transferred to Shaare Zedek hospital under the pretext of being under arrest.
