November 23, 2016

Fifteen people participated in the funeral of 28-year old Martyr Nasib Abu Meizar at Al-Mujahedeen Cemetery (Herod’s gate) in Jerusalem after the occupation authorities had detained his body for two months.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center explained that the occupation forces closed on Wednesday midnight the surrounding of Al-Mujahedeen Cemetery as well as several streets using iron barriers and police vehicles. They prevented locals from passing through and then released the body in the presence of only 15 people of the Martyr’s family.

The lawyer of prisoners’ affairs, Mohammad Mahmoud, explained that the Israeli intelligence released the body of Martyr Abu Meizar in the presence of 15 people only.  The Martyr’s family carried out the funeral procedures and buried him; the body was in good condition and was not frozen.

Nasib Abu Meizar passed away last September after being shot by the occupation soldiers at Qalandia checkpoint north of Jerusalem. The police claimed that Abu Meizar stabbed one of the guards at Qalandia checkpoint.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud also explained that after releasing Abu Merizar’s body, the Israeli authorities continue to detain the body of Martyr Musbah Abu Sbeih. In the next few days, he will start the necessary procedures to release his body.

In regards to the detained bodies of Martyrs from the West Bank, the lawyer explained that the prisoners’ committee filed an appeal to the Israeli military prosecution to retain the detained bodies of Martyrs from the West Bank.
