December 18, 2017

The occupation municipality ordered Haitham Abu Rammouz to self-demolish his house in the neighborhood of Ras Al-Amoud in Silwan under the pretext of building without a permit.

Abu Rammouz explained to Maan news agency that he started self-demolishing his house using hand-demolition tools after the municipality issued an order to demolish his house, and to avoid paying demolition costs and high fines.

Abu Rammouz added that the house consists of two floors with an area of 150 square meters. It is built from tin plates and roofed with bricks. Municipality crews started harassing Abu Rammouz four years ago under the pretext of building without a permit, and he attempted to obtain a building permit and postpone the demolition orders until the final demolition order was recently issued.

Abu Rammouz explained that his son intended to move-in next April, but the municipality forced the family to demolish their house. It is noteworthy that the house is established above the family’s building.
