An eviction notice for Sumrein family and giving them until mid-August to implement the decision
On Tuesday evening, the Central Court issued a decision to evict the Sumrein family from its property located in Wadi Hilweh neighborhood in Silwan, south of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, on the pretext of its ownership by the "Jewish National Fund".
Wadi Hilweh Information Center/ Silwan explained that the Central Court had given the Sumrein family until 20/8/2020 to implement the eviction decision in favor of the settlers.
The center added that the Central Court held a session on Tuesday morning to consider the appeal of the Sumrein family to the decision of the Magistrate's Court issued at the end of last September, which requires evicting the family from its home. After several hours, the Central Court approved the eviction decision and rejected the appeal.
The Information Center pointed out that the Sumrein family has been in conflict with the occupation courts since 1991, after an eviction lawsuit by the Israeli "Himonta" company - which is considered one of the "Jewish National Fund" companies - to claim ownership of the property.
Ala’ Sumrein, one of the real estate owners, explained that the occupation authorities transferred the ownership of the house in 1983 and considered it a "custodian of the absentees' property," after the death of the great grandfather of the family, Musa Abdullah Sumrein, by claiming that the children of Hajj Musa in Jordan had no heirs in the Palestinian territories, despite that Mohammad Sumrein, Hajj Musa's nephew, had lived with him at home and bought it from him before his death.
Ala’ Sumrein added that the occupation authorities transferred ownership of the property without informing the family until they reached the eviction lawsuit in 1991, noting that family members are living in the property and did not leave it.
The occupation authorities transferred the ownership of the property from the guardian of absentee property to the "Israeli Development Authority", then to the "Himonta" company, which is trying today to evict the Sumrein family from their property.
The property consists of 4 apartments where 18 people live, and is located inside the tourist settlement outpost called "City of David" at the entrance to Wadi Hilweh, and overlooks Al-Aqsa Mosque from the south side.
