The area of “fake graves” planted by the occupation authorities in the lands of Silwan is expanding to new areas of the town’s lands, and the “newer area” that is being worked on becomes a new direct view of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem stated that the official occupation institutions and settlement associations have, for years, been cultivating “fake graves” in several lands in the town of Silwan, claiming that they were “cemeteries for Jews,” and they are being rehabilitated.
The center added: “The occupation institutions plant graves in “areas located between Wadi Hilweh, Wadi al-Rababeh, al-Saldouha and the Silwan Plateau,” by plowing and leveling the land and placing soil in it, then building graves anchored with concrete, or placing huge stones distributed over separate areas of the land, and writing names in Hebrew on some stones.”
The center explained that the occupation authorities recently started working to expand the area of the cemetery of the so-called "Sambusky Jewish Cemetery" in the Wadi Hilweh area, by placing dirt and huge stones in the place, and a sign in Arabic and Hebrew bearing the name of the cemetery.
The information center explained that the cultivation of graves had begun in the "al-Saludha" area and the middle quarter in the seventies of the last century, with the cultivation of scattered graves in the place, and at the beginning of the millennium, it began planting graves in the area of Wadi Al-Rababeh, a few meters from the residential houses, then the cultivation of graves extended in other areas down to the neighborhood of Wadi Hilweh "where work is being done now".
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem clarified that the place currently being worked on in the Wadi Hilweh area was a parking lot for residents' vehicles several months ago, but the occupation authorities bulldozed the land and prevented the residents from using it, then began planting graves there.
The center pointed out that the works carried out on this plot were carried out without obtaining permits from the municipality, while work continues in the same way and without a permit on the adjacent land to this day.
The center added that the lands planted in fake graves were confiscated after the occupation of the city of Jerusalem, and were considered among the absentee property custodians, and over the past years their ownership has been transferred to several institutions, including settlement institutions, and governmental and local authorities.
