March 14, 2023

The Public Prosecution agreed to hand over the body of the Jerusalemite martyr Mohammad Abu Jom’a, from the town of Al-Tur, who has been held in refrigerators since September 2022.

Mohammad Mahmoud, a lawyer for the Wadi Hilweh Information Center – Jerusalem, explained that the Public Prosecution Office responded to the “Supreme Court” regarding the petition submitted to hand over the body of the martyr Mohammad Abu Jom’a, and agreed to hand it over. As for the date and conditions of delivery, it will be determined by the police.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud submitted a petition to the Supreme Court last October, in which he demanded that the body of the martyr Mohammad Abu Jom’a be handed over, and not to bury it in the numbers cemetery. At the end of the year, a session was held in the court, during which the judges listened to the claims of the lawyer and the Public Prosecution. During the session, the judges affirmed that they did not object to handing over the body to the family, and demanded that the prosecution clarify "the real and convincing reason for not handing over the body and continuing to detain it in refrigerators." Today, the prosecution sent its approval of the Supreme Court's decision and did not oppose the handover of the body.

The young man, Mohammad Abu Jom’a, was martyred, on September 22nd, near the Modi'in settlement.
