Day 224 Jerusalem during “Al-Aqsa Flood” Operation
May 17, 2024

On the 224th day of "Al-Aqsa Flood Operation", the occupation authorities imposed restrictions on the entry of worshipers to perform the dawn prayer at Al-Aqsa, and forces were deployed at the gates of the Old City of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa in conjunction with the arrival of worshipers to perform Friday prayers.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem explained that the forces stationed at the gates of the Old City, especially Lions Gate and Herods Gate, prevented dozens of young worshipers from entering Al-Aqsa to perform the Friday dawn prayer. The worshipers noted that the forces prevented them from entering the Old City to reach Al-Aqsa, explaining that they tried to enter through Lions Gate and Herods Gate, as they were the closest to Al-Aqsa, but the forces stopped them, especially the young men, and prevented them from entering the Old City.

The worshipers - most of whom were residents of the Palestinian 1948 territories - explained that the forces forcibly removed them from the Lions Gate area, so they performed the dawn prayer in the Yusufiya cemetery, "the closest point they were able to reach."

During Friday prayers, the forces were deployed at the gates of Al-Aqsa and the Old City, and randomly prevented some young men from entering, after stopping them and checking their identities.

The forces severely beat the young man, Ahmed Al-Abbasi, arrested him, and then released him on the condition that he be expelled from Al-Aqsa for two weeks.

30,000 worshipers performed Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa, and special forces were deployed in Al-Aqsa squares and among the worshipers until the prayer ended and the worshipers left Al-Aqsa.

The police continued to set up police checkpoints in the streets of Jerusalem.
