Sentencing the Jerusalemite girl Nourhan Awad for 13 and a half years of actual imprisonment
The District Court sentenced on Wednesday the Jerusalemite girl Nourhan Ibrahim Awad.
The lawyer of Prisoner’s Club, Mufeed Al-Hajj, explained that the District Court sentenced 17-year old Nourhan Awad for 13 and a half years of actual imprisonment and a 30-thousand NIS fine.
Awad was arrested on November 23rd, 2015 after being shot and injured while her cousin Hadil Awad passed away in the same incident; they were accused of attempting to carry out a stabbing attack in Jaffa Street in West Jerusalem.
Lawyer Al-Hajj explained that the Israeli authorities arrested Nourhan when she was injured and was immediately interrogated while receiving treatment.
Al-Hajj also pointed out that the Israeli courts did not refer to children as children in the sentencing order but as numbers and the city of Jerusalem is now facing “terrorism” and this phenomenon must be reduced. Sentencing children is to deter other from carrying out similar attacks.
