October 17, 2018

On Wednesday morning, Israeli bulldozers demolished a house in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber, south of Jerusalem, under the pretext of building without a permit.

The family of Khalil Za'atra explained that the Israeli occupation forces stormed their house in the early morning hours, after it was completely surrounded and then forced them to leave without allowing them to take out their contents.

"The occupation forces forced us to leave the house. They prevented us from taking private papers, IDs and even textbooks and school bags for my children. Before the bulldozers started the demolition, the municipality staff removed some furniture while the demolition was carried out on the other part," said Su'ad Za'atra.

She added: “The house was built 4 months ago, and we built it and moved to it, especially with the increase in house rents in the city. The municipality issued a decision to demolish it and we went to the court and the demolition was postponed and we tried to license it. We were surprised this morning by the raid and demolition operation without prior notice.”

There are eight people living in the house of Za’atra family, including 5 under 18 years of age. The house is 100 square meters built from reinforced concrete.
