After 8 months of house arrest - the young woman Zeina Abdo was sentenced to actual prison
On Monday, the Magistrate's Court judge sentenced the 18-year-old Jerusalem girl Zeina Abdo to actual imprisonment, after spending 8 months in house arrest.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center’s lawyer, Mohammad Mahmoud, explained that the young woman Zeina was sentenced to actual imprisonment for 5 and a half months, and a fine of 5 thousand shekels.
In an interview with her, Abdo described the decision as "shocking", and said: "After the imposition of house arrest on me since December 2022, today I will be sentenced to actual imprisonment for 5 and a half months, and according to the decision I must turn myself in to Al-Ramla prison in mid- September." Abdo explained that she was arrested at the beginning of last December, while walking in "Lions
Gate" road, where she was surprised by the forces attacking her and pointing weapons at her, then arresting her and turning her over for investigation, and she said about the arrest: “I found myself among 6 soldiers and all of them pointed the weapon at me, then they arrested me, and during my detention in the police car they insulted me, hit me and photographed me." Regarding the investigation, Abdo explained: "Several sessions, repetition of questions, great psychological pressure, constant threats and deliberate insults, and I was transferred from Al- Maskobyeh to Hasharon prison back and forth throughout my detention period which lasted 3 weeks.”
The public prosecution charged the young woman Zeina with "incitement on social media", and she remained under investigation and detention until 20/12/2022, where the judge agreed to release her on the condition of house arrest.
In regards to the house arrest, she said: "Difficult days and months I spent under house arrest, my childhood was lost, difficult psychological pressure, I was supposed to be a Tawjihi student, and these days my friends are waiting for the results and are getting ready to celebrate, and because of the house arrest I was deprived of that ".
Zeina Abdo pointed out that she was arrested the first time in April 2021, while walking in Herods Gate Street in the city of Jerusalem, and then was assaulted and severely beaten before being released.
